51 Activity #2: Create a rubric

Review Your Assignment

Review the assignment you developed in the first activity.

Ensure Alignment: Check if the grading criteria and assignment directions are in alignment. Ask yourself:

Do the grading criteria match the tasks students need to complete?

Are the expectations clear in both the criteria and the directions?

Create Your Rubric

Define Criteria: List the grading criteria for your assignment. Consider:

Clarity: Are the criteria clear and specific?

Specificity: Do the criteria cover all key aspects of the assignment?

Set Performance Levels: Determine the levels of performance (e.g., Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Needs Improvement).

Describe Performance Levels: For each criterion, describe what each performance level looks like.

Ensure the descriptions are specific and actionable.

Provide examples where possible to illustrate each level.

Validate Your Rubric

Check Understanding: Ensure the grading criteria can help students understand and meet the expectations.

Review and Revise: Go through your rubric and make any necessary revisions to improve clarity and alignment.

Optional Review

Review Peers’ Rubrics: Take the opportunity to review your classmates’ rubrics.

Provide Feedback: Offer constructive feedback to your peers, although this is not mandatory.

Use Generative AI for Assistance

Try Generative AI: Use ChatGPT or any other generative AI tool you are familiar with to help you design and build your rubric.

AI Prompt for Rubric Creation: Consider using the following script to interact with AI:

“I am creating a rubric for an assignment on [insert assignment topic]. The criteria include [list criteria]. Please help me define performance levels (Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Needs Improvement) and describe what each level looks like for each criterion.”

Submission

Submit the final version of your rubric by [insert deadline].

Ensure your rubric is clear, specific, and aligned with your assignment directions.
