Goals and expectations of the bootcamp

Introduction to Effective Course Design

Objective: To familiarize participants with the principles and importance of effective online course design. This includes understanding the challenges faced by instructors and students and identifying the key components that contribute to a successful online course.

Activities: Icebreakers, discussions on challenges in online courses, and brainstorming sessions to identify successful course components

Development of Course Lesson Plans and Learning Objectives

Objective: To guide participants in creating structured course lesson plans and measurable learning objectives. This includes using tools like Bloom’s Taxonomy and aligning objectives with course outcomes.

Activities: Reviewing course content, dividing content into modules, using AI tools like ChatGPT for developing learning objectives, and peer review sessions for feedback on lesson plans

Selection and Accessibility of Instructional Materials

Objective: To help participants select appropriate instructional materials and ensure their accessibility. This covers the use of Open Educational Resources (OER), understanding copyright and Creative Commons licenses, and applying accessibility standards.

Activities: Identifying instructional materials, using accessibility checkers like Canvas Accessibility Checker and UDOIt, and making documents accessible

Designing Assessments and Learning Activities

Objective: To equip participants with the skills to design assessments and learning activities that align with course objectives and promote student engagement. This includes various types of assessments and ensuring inclusivity in assessment design.

Activities: Developing detailed assignment directions, creating rubrics, conducting peer reviews, and aligning assessments with learning objectives

Building and Reviewing Courses in Canvas

Objective: To provide hands-on experience in building and reviewing course modules in the Canvas learning management system. This includes using templates, ensuring accessibility, and conducting peer reviews.

Activities: Building course modules, using UDOIt to check for accessibility issues, and conducting peer reviews to polish course maps and modules
